Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are getting plenty of attention in northern Michigan. Members of the first cohort of the Michigan ACE Initiative have been very active in the northern lower peninsula and in doing so have touched lives of many. They’ve spoken to schools, parents, law enforcement, the medical community, the opioid symposium, partner agencies including Great Start and many others.
Friday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 4, the Michigan ACEs Initiative will be represented at the Traverse City Film Festival. A work in progress of the powerful film CRACKED UP: the Darrell Hammond Story will be screened twice: Friday night at nine in the Milliken Auditorium at Northwest Michigan College and Saturday afternoon at noon in the flagship State Theater.
The film’s director, Michelle Esrick, has invited the Michigan ACE Initiative to provide information as well as therapeutic support for the audiences. Qualified counselors will be on hand to provide emotional support for patrons and a table with ACEs information and local resources will be available to audiences.
ACEs Master Trainer Mary Gruman will speak on behalf of the ACEs Initiative as the film is deeply steeped in the adversities faced by SNL alum and world class impersonator Darrell Hammond.
